Kazakhstan Visa for Indians in 2026: Rules and Flights

Indian citizens can enter Kazakhstan without a visa for a continuous stay of up to 14 days, with a cap of 42 days in any 180-day period, under a Kazakh government decree of 7 July 2022. The Embassy of India in Astana lists these terms. For longer stays or other purposes, check the official Kazakh visa process before booking.

Kazakhstan is one of the easier Central Asian destinations for Indians on paper, but the day limits are strict. Here is what the official sources say and how flights from India fit in.

Do Indians need a visa for Kazakhstan in 2026?

For short trips, no. The Embassy of India in Astana states that Decree 464 of the Government of Kazakhstan, dated 7 July 2022, introduced visa-free entry for Indian citizens for a continuous stay of up to 14 days. The same page says the total of visa-free stays is capped at 42 days within every 180 days. The Embassy page was updated on 16 October 2026, which suggests the rule is still current.

Two points to keep in mind:

  • The 14 days is per continuous stay. The 42-day total across any 180-day window still applies if you make several trips.
  • Visa-free entry is not permission to work. Paid work needs the right visa, arranged before you travel.

What if I want to stay longer than 14 days?

A stay beyond 14 days is not covered by the visa-free rule, so you would need a visa. Kazakhstan has an official online visa and migration portal, and travel guides describe an e-visa for tourists. Guides differ on the details such as the stay length, the invitation requirement, processing time and fees, so we have not quoted them here. Confirm everything on the official Kazakh portal or with the Kazakh mission in India before you buy a ticket.

A simple rule: if your plan is a week or ten days of sightseeing, the visa-free rule is enough. If you are thinking about three or four weeks, or a trip that may extend, sort the visa first.

Which airlines fly from India to Kazakhstan?

Schedules change, and the most detailed figures we found are from 2025, so treat the list as a starting point and check current timetables.

  • IndiGo: a 2025 report said it flew Almaty to Delhi seven times a week, and that it planned an Astana to Delhi route from 14 May 2025, three times a week.
  • Air Astana: has served Delhi since 2004, and began Almaty to Mumbai flights on 20 April 2025, three times a week.

A schedule listing for Air Astana’s Almaty to Delhi flight KC963 showed a departure on 3 October 2026, which suggests the route is in the current timetable. Even so, confirm before booking, because Air Astana temporarily suspended its Delhi flights from 9 to 18 May 2025 because of airspace restrictions. Disruptions of that kind are a reason to keep your fare flexible.

Which city should I fly into, Almaty or Astana?

Almaty is the larger leisure base and sits near mountain scenery, which is why many first-time visitors start there. Astana is the capital, known for its modern architecture. The best choice is whichever has a convenient schedule from your home airport, because direct options differ between the two cities.

A small aviation touch: Kazakhstan is the largest landlocked country in the world, so for most Indian travellers the way in is a flight.

How should I plan the days and the dates?

Count your days from the day you enter, and include both arrival and departure days in your plan to be safe. If you are combining Kazakhstan with another country, build the whole route so that no single stay in Kazakhstan goes past the limit. A late-night arrival or a delayed flight can quietly push a tight itinerary over, so leave a little room.

Keep a copy of your return or onward booking and your hotel details in your phone and on paper. Immigration officers can ask for them, and having them ready makes arrival smoother. If your dates are not firm, choose a fare that lets you change them, and compare what each fare family allows before paying.

Before you book, check the following:

  • Your passport validity and blank pages, as a general rule for any international trip.
  • Whether your trip will stay within 14 days, and your total days in the last 180.
  • Your airline’s baggage allowance on the specific fare. Compare the fare families before you pay, since a cheaper fare may include less baggage.
  • Travel insurance, which is worth considering for any international trip.
