IndiGo UpFront Fare Explained: What You Get and Who It Suits

IndiGo UpFront is the airline’s third economy fare, sitting above Saver and Flexi Plus. It guarantees a seat in the front two rows of the cabin, adds 5 kg of extra checked baggage, includes a complimentary snack on most routes, and drops the change fee to nil. Cancellation costs less too. It does not include Fast Forward priority boarding, which still costs extra.

IndiGo sells three economy fares today: Saver, Flexi Plus and UpFront, plus IndiGoStretch and Stretch Plus in business. The names alone do not tell you what each buys. Here is exactly what the UpFront fare includes, checked against IndiGo’s own fare and fee pages, and who it actually suits.

What does the IndiGo UpFront fare include?

According to IndiGo’s own UpFront page, the fare bundles together a front-row economy seat, extra baggage, a snack and softer change and cancellation terms:

  • A seat in the front two rows of the economy cabin, with extra legroom compared to the rest of the cabin.
  • An additional 5 kg of checked baggage over your fare’s base allowance.
  • A complimentary snack on most routes. On connecting or transit itineraries, IndiGo limits this to one combo per booking, not one per sector.
  • Free date change, on both domestic and international flights (you still pay any fare difference between the old and new flight).
  • A lower cancellation fee than Saver or Flexi Plus.

One thing UpFront does not include: Fast Forward, IndiGo’s priority check-in and anytime-boarding service. IndiGo sells that separately as an add-on, even to UpFront passengers, so budget for it if quick boarding matters to you.

What does IndiGo UpFront cost to change or cancel?

IndiGo’s published fee schedule shows UpFront carries no change fee at all, whether you change your flight more than 72 hours out or at the last minute; you only pay the difference in fare. Cancellation is the one place a fee survives: on domestic bookings it is INR 999 if you cancel 72 hours or more before departure, and INR 1599 if you cancel within that 72-hour window. That compares favourably with Saver and Flexi Plus, which both charge more to change and, in Saver’s case, considerably more to cancel.

Which seats are “UpFront” seats?

IndiGo’s seat-fee schedule marks out the UpFront zone by aircraft. On the 180 and 186-seat A320s, it is rows 1 and 2. On A321s fitted with IndiGoStretch business class, and on the A321-XLR, it moves back to rows 4 and 5, since rows 1 to 3 belong to Stretch. On the ATR 72, it is rows 19 and 20, near the rear doors on that aircraft. If you are not flying the UpFront fare but still want one of these seats, IndiGo sells them as a standalone “Seat Select” add-on for roughly INR 1,999 to 2,999 on domestic routes, more on international ones. Buying the fare itself usually works out cheaper than paying Saver plus that seat fee separately, once you add in the free date change and lower cancellation cost.

UpFront vs Flexi Plus vs Saver: what actually changes?

Saver is IndiGo’s base economy fare: the lowest price, with the airline’s standard checked baggage allowance and the highest change and cancellation fees. Flexi Plus sits in the middle, trading a higher fare for softer change terms and, depending on the route, a seat benefit. UpFront goes further again: it adds the guaranteed front-row seat, the extra 5 kg of baggage and the free date change on top. The honest way to think about it is that each step up buys flexibility and comfort, not a materially different flight. The flight, the crew and the safety standard are identical across all three fares.

Who should book IndiGo UpFront?

UpFront earns its price difference for travellers who value legroom and a front-of-cabin seat for a quick exit, anyone carrying slightly more baggage than Saver allows, and anyone who books fares early but expects the plan to shift, since the fare is unlikely to need a change fee if it does. It is less useful if you are certain of your dates and travelling light, where Saver with a standard seat selection will usually cost less overall.

Common Questions

Does the UpFront fare include free seat selection?

Yes. The front-row seat in the UpFront zone is part of the fare itself, so you are not charged the separate Seat Select fee that a Saver or Flexi Plus passenger would pay to sit in that same row.

Is the UpFront snack vegetarian?

IndiGo’s onboard snack and meal menu includes vegetarian options. Exact items vary by route and flight duration, so check the current onboard menu on IndiGo’s own app or website before you fly.

Can I add Fast Forward to an UpFront booking?

Yes, but it is not included free. Fast Forward (priority check-in and anytime boarding) is sold as a separate add-on regardless of which fare you booked.

Does the extra 5 kg baggage apply on international flights too?

IndiGo describes the extra baggage as part of the UpFront fare generally, without a published domestic-only limit, but baggage allowances and excess rates differ by route. Confirm the exact kilos for your specific sector on IndiGo’s baggage page or at booking.

Is UpFront the same as IndiGoStretch?

No. Stretch and Stretch Plus are IndiGo’s business class product, occupying the front three rows on Stretch-equipped A321s. UpFront is an economy fare, seated just behind that business cabin on those aircraft, or in the front two rows on aircraft without Stretch.

How do I book the UpFront fare specifically?

On IndiGo’s website or app, after you pick a flight you will see fare tiles for Saver, Flexi Plus and UpFront side by side with their prices. Select the UpFront tile before you proceed to passenger details.
