Eid al-Fitr 2027: Expected Date and How to Plan Your Flights

Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected around Tuesday, 9 March or Wednesday, 10 March 2027, and the exact day depends on the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon. The central government’s 2027 holiday list shows Id-ul-Fitr on Wednesday, 10 March. Because the date can shift by a day, choose flights and fare types that allow for a change.

Eid al-Fitr 2027 arrives in early March, close to the end of the winter flying season. Because the date is set by the moon, the best plan is one that keeps a little flexibility.

When is Eid al-Fitr in 2027?

Eid al-Fitr marks 1 Shawwal, the first day after the month of Ramadan ends. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday, 8 February, after the crescent is looked for on the evening of Sunday, 7 February. Published forecasts say the month lasts 29 or 30 days, which puts Eid on Tuesday, 9 March or Wednesday, 10 March 2027 depending on the Shawwal crescent. Under the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia, Eid falls on Tuesday, 9 March.

In India, the Department of Personnel and Training’s 2027 list of gazetted holidays for central government offices in Delhi shows Id-ul-Fitr on Wednesday, 10 March, with a note that the date may change based on the sighting of the moon. Treat 10 March as the planning date in India, and 9 March as the possibility on the other side of it.

Moon sighting happens only a day or so before, which means the final date is not confirmed until very close to the festival. Do not wait for the announcement to start planning, though. Plan around a window of two days.

Is Eid al-Fitr a holiday in India?

Id-ul-Fitr is on the central government’s list of gazetted holidays for 2027. For offices located outside Delhi, the central government’s arrangement is that the list is finalised through state-level committees, and a report on the 2027 list says Id-ul-Fitr is compulsory for central offices outside Delhi as well. Schools, banks and private employers publish their own calendars, so check yours.

If the holiday lands on Wednesday, 10 March, a long break needs one or two leave days. If it moves to Tuesday, 9 March, the weekend math changes. Hold off on non-refundable plans until you know which day your employer observes.

How should you plan flights around a moon-sighting date?

The main risk is committing to a single day. A few ways to reduce it:

  • Pick an outbound flight for the day before the earliest possible date, so you arrive in time either way.
  • For the return, avoid the very first morning after Eid unless you know your office is open.
  • Choose a fare type that allows date changes if you have a choice. Fares that allow changes usually cost more than the lowest fares, and that extra cost can be worth it when the date is uncertain.
  • Set a price alert on your route and watch movement, rather than refreshing daily.

If you are flying to meet family, tell them which two days you are considering. Relatives usually plan the day around the moon announcement, and a short message avoids a mismatch in arrival times.

Festival travel generally pushes demand up on the days just before and after the holiday. Booking earlier tends to give you more choice of timings. Compare a few departure days before you commit.

Will airline schedules change around March 2027?

Possibly. Airlines work to two seasonal timetables a year, and the Northern Summer season under the IATA calendar starts on the last Sunday of March, which in 2027 is 28 March. Airlines often adjust timetables around a season change, so a flight you have booked for late March can see a timing change. Check your booking for airline messages in the weeks before you fly.

Eid in 2027 falls before that changeover, so most Eid travellers are flying in the winter season. Even so, it is a good habit to recheck flight timings a few days before departure.

What should you check before you fly for Eid?

Start with the basics: names on the ticket matching your government ID, baggage allowance for your fare, and the airport terminal. Checking in is free on every Indian airline, online or at the airport, and web check-in saves time at a busy airport.

Reach the airport early on festival days, because security and bag-drop lines are usually longer. If you are travelling with older family members who need help at the airport, ask the airline directly about assistance before the travel date. HappyFares does not arrange special assistance, so the request goes to the airline.

Common Questions

What is the expected date of Eid al-Fitr 2027?

Expected on Tuesday, 9 March or Wednesday, 10 March 2027, depending on the Shawwal moon sighting. The central government’s holiday list shows Wednesday, 10 March.

Why does the date change?

The Islamic calendar is lunar. Each month begins with the sighting of the new crescent, so Eid is confirmed only close to the date, and different places can observe it on different days.

Is Id-ul-Fitr a central government holiday in 2027?

Yes. It is on the 2027 gazetted holiday list issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, with the date subject to moon sighting.

Should I book flights before the date is confirmed?

You can, if you pick a flexible fare or keep both possible days in mind. Fares often rise as seats sell, so waiting has its own risk.

Does web check-in cost anything?

Checking in is free on every Indian airline, online or at the airport.
