Sunburn Goa: Flights and Travel Tips

When we checked in October 2026, we could not confirm official dates or the venue for the next Sunburn Goa edition, and listings conflict. Goa has two airports: Dabolim (GOI) in South Goa and Mopa (GOX) in North Goa. Wait for the organisers’ announcement, then pick the airport that suits your stay and your airline.

Sunburn is one of the best-known electronic music festivals in India, and Goa is the place most people associate it with. Because dates and venues have shifted over the years, this guide is honest about what is confirmed and what is not.

When is Sunburn Goa, and where is it held?

We could not find an official announcement for the next Goa edition. Third-party listings disagree, showing several different date ranges, and some are clearly guesses. One tracking site lists 28 to 30 December 2026 in Goa but says its own information is tracked rather than verified. Separately, a news feature reported that Sunburn is holding a Mumbai edition on 18 and 19 December 2026 at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, so do not assume every Sunburn event is in Goa.

Past Goa editions have been reported at Vagator in North Goa, but we have not seen a confirmed venue for the coming season. The organisers’ own website and official social channels are the places to check. Until dates are confirmed, avoid non-refundable bookings.

Which Goa airport should you use?

Goa has two airports, and they are in different parts of the state.

  • Dabolim (GOI): the older airport in South Goa. A January 2026 report said the Defence Minister confirmed that Dabolim will remain fully operational for civilian traffic.
  • Mopa, Manohar International Airport (GOX): the newer airport in North Goa. Qatar Airways moved its Goa operations from Dabolim to Mopa from 20 June 2024, according to news reports.

The split of airlines between the two airports has changed over time and can change again. In August 2024 the Goa Chief Minister raised concerns with the Centre about airlines shifting operations from Dabolim to Mopa. So do not assume your usual airline uses the airport you used last time. Check the airport shown on your booking before you pay.

Did you know? Goa’s two airports use different three-letter codes, GOI and GOX, and Mopa’s official name is Manohar International Airport. Booking the wrong one is an easy mistake when you are comparing fares quickly.

Which airport is better for a festival in North Goa?

If the festival is held in North Goa again, Mopa is generally the closer airport for beaches like Vagator and Anjuna, because it sits in the north of the state. Dabolim is in the south and the road transfer to the north is typically longer. Road time in Goa depends heavily on traffic, and late December is usually busy, so allow generous buffers rather than trusting a single estimate.

Check the current taxi and transfer options at the airport you land at. Do not count on a last-minute booking, especially around late-night arrivals.

When should you book flights and stays?

The last week of December is a peak period for Goa generally, with Christmas and New Year travel. Fares and hotel rates tend to rise as the date approaches, and seats on direct flights from major metros can fill early. Booking once your plans are firm, and setting a price alert while you wait for official dates, is a sensible approach.

  • Compare fare families: IndiGo offers Saver, Flexi Plus and UpFront; Akasa Air offers Saver and Flexi; Air India and Air India Express offer Value, Classic and Flex.
  • A flexible fare may be worth the extra cost when festival dates are not final.
  • Check the baggage allowance for your fare, since festival gear and shopping add up.

What should you carry and plan for?

Keep your ID handy for hotel check-in and the festival entry. Carry sunscreen, a refillable water bottle and comfortable footwear, since large outdoor venues involve a lot of walking. Plan your return transfer before the event ends, because late-night taxis can be scarce when thousands of people leave at once.

Many travellers leave a day of buffer after the festival so that a delayed flight or a tired morning does not derail a connection home. If you are connecting onward, choose a return flight in the afternoon or evening rather than early morning.

Common Questions

Are Sunburn Goa dates for the next edition confirmed?

Not as far as we could verify. Listings conflict, so check the organisers’ official channels before booking.

Is Sunburn always in Goa?

No. A news feature reported a Mumbai edition on 18 and 19 December 2026, so confirm the city as well as the dates.

Should I fly into Dabolim or Mopa?

It depends on where you are staying and which airline you fly. Mopa is in North Goa and Dabolim is in South Goa. Check the airport on your booking.

Does check-in cost anything?

Checking in is free on Indian airlines, online or at the airport.

Can I change my flight if festival dates move?

That depends on your fare. Flexible fare families usually allow changes with fewer charges, but check the airline’s current rules.

Do I need a lot of time between the festival and my flight?

A buffer is wise. Late-night crowds, traffic and transfer delays can eat into your time.
