IndiGo Seat Layout: A320neo, A321neo and ATR Seat Maps Explained

IndiGo flies three main cabin layouts. Its A320s seat either 180 or 186 passengers in a single economy cabin. Its A321s seat 222 or 232 in economy-only form, or carry a 12-seat IndiGoStretch business cabin plus roughly 208 economy seats on Stretch-equipped aircraft and the A321-XLR. The ATR 72-600 seats 78 in a 2-2 layout. Each has its own emergency-exit and UpFront rows, set out on IndiGo’s own fee schedule.

IndiGo flies several different seat configurations under the same aircraft family names, which is why the seat you get can look different from a friend’s on what sounds like the same aircraft. Here is how the layouts actually break down, based on IndiGo’s own published fee and seating schedule.

How many seats does the IndiGo A320neo have?

IndiGo operates its Airbus A320 family (including the older A320ceo and the newer A320neo) in two seat counts: 180 seats and 186 seats, both in a single all-economy cabin in a 3-3 layout. IndiGo’s own 2023 fleet announcement confirmed both the 180 and 186-seat A320 configurations are in service. On both versions, the airline’s extra-legroom “Emergency Extra legroom” seats sit at rows 12 and 13, next to the mid-cabin exits, while UpFront seats are at the very front, rows 1 and 2. IndiGo’s fee schedule states these extra-legroom rows offer at least 82 cm of legroom, against an average of 72 cm or less in the rest of the cabin.

How many seats does the IndiGo A321neo have?

The A321 is where IndiGo’s layouts diverge the most. In pure economy form, IndiGo runs two counts: a 222-seat version with more legroom overall, and a denser 232-seat version. Both put UpFront seats at rows 1 and 2, and extra-legroom exit-row seats around rows 18, 19 and 28 (with the 232-seat version adding a few more seats in that extra-legroom band). On A321 aircraft fitted with IndiGoStretch business class, and on the newer, longer-range A321-XLR, the layout shifts: IndiGoStretch occupies rows 1 to 3, UpFront moves back to rows 4 and 5, and the extra-legroom rows sit further into the cabin. IndiGo’s fee page lists these Stretch-equipped A321s as “220 Seater” aircraft, meaning the 12 Stretch business seats plus roughly 208 economy seats. On both A321-222/232 seaters and the Stretch-equipped variants, IndiGo states its extra-legroom seats offer at least 92 cm of legroom.

What is IndiGoStretch, and where does it sit?

IndiGoStretch, and the higher Stretch Plus tier, is IndiGo’s business class product, available only on the A321 aircraft fitted for it and on the A321-XLR. It occupies the front three rows in a 2-2 layout, ahead of the UpFront economy zone. If you are not flying Stretch, you will not find it on a plain A320 or on the economy-only 222 or 232-seat A321s; it exists only on the specific Stretch-fitted tail numbers and the XLR.

How many seats does IndiGo’s ATR 72-600 have?

IndiGo’s ATR 72-600, used on shorter regional routes, seats 78 passengers in a 2-2 layout with no middle seat, which is one reason it tends to feel a little more comfortable for pairs travelling together. UpFront seats on the ATR are at rows 19 and 20, towards the rear, while the extra-legroom emergency rows are near the front at rows 1 and 2, the reverse of the layout on IndiGo’s jets. The ATR also boards and disembarks from the rear of the aircraft rather than the front.

How do I know which aircraft and layout I am booked on?

IndiGo shows you the actual seat map, including the aircraft’s exact row count and the position of UpFront, extra-legroom and standard seats, at the seat-selection step when you book or during web check-in. That seat map will tell you immediately whether you are on a 180, 186, 222, 232 or 220-seat configuration, or the ATR, without needing to guess from the aircraft name alone. For a route-by-route breakdown of which seats are actually worth paying for, see our separate guide to choosing the best IndiGo seats.

Common Questions

Does every IndiGo A321 have IndiGoStretch business class?

No. Only specific A321 aircraft fitted for it, plus the A321-XLR, carry Stretch. The 222 and 232-seat A321 versions are economy-only.

Which rows have the most legroom on an IndiGo A320?

IndiGo’s own fee schedule marks rows 12 and 13 as its extra-legroom “Emergency Extra legroom” seats on both the 180 and 186-seat A320, with at least 82 cm of legroom per the airline’s published figures.

Are UpFront seats always at the very front of the cabin?

Usually, but not always. On a plain A320 or on the 222/232-seat A321, UpFront is rows 1 and 2. On Stretch-equipped A321s and the XLR, UpFront moves to rows 4 and 5 because IndiGoStretch occupies rows 1 to 3 ahead of it. On the ATR, UpFront is actually near the rear, at rows 19 and 20.

Does the ATR 72-600 have a middle seat?

No. It flies a 2-2 layout throughout the cabin, so every seat is either a window or an aisle seat.

Can I pick my seat for free on IndiGo?

Standard seats can usually be selected for a fee under IndiGo’s Seat Select programme, though a free seat is assigned automatically at check-in if you do not pay to pick one. Extra-legroom, UpFront and Stretch seats carry their own charges unless they are already included in your fare.

Where can I find exact seat-pitch measurements for each IndiGo aircraft?

IndiGo’s own public pages publish legroom in centimetres for its extra-legroom rows, but not a full seat-pitch chart for every row. For general seating comfort advice by route, see our separate guide to IndiGo’s best seats.
